Kani is the Kashmir name given to a wooden Spool which is used most while weaving a shawl on the loom. These shawls are handcrafted using wooden Sticks by artisans.

Artisans use cane needles attached to the brightly colored thread to create the intricate, flowing floral motifs that characterized Kani shawls.
